MudBox Introduction

Benjamin Button

We were introduced to MudBox in the last Moving Images lesson. This proved to be a very interesting and useful program which was designed for usage in the 2008 film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, a film about a man who ages backwards.  This program was made by AutoDesk, the creators of 3DS Max. The software allows extremely detailed modelling of facial features and body parts.

This was clearly groundbreaking at the time of conception, and by todays standards doesnt seem that crazy, but to say the program was made to create this very character, it does show how far movie makers will go and how much they’ll pay to create the correct effect. It works very well, and I think it is well worth it, and today it provides game creators, modelling hobbyists and movie makers alike with extremely detailed facial and bodily modelling.
